I’m sure that most of you are doing your part to use less plastic and are reducing, reusing and recycling like good environmental people. But there’s still more to do! Plastic ocean litter is one of the deadliest threats to our marine life, who mistake it for food and/or become entangled. Our trash is also accumulating in the North Pacific Gyre and changing the very composition of our ocean. Additionally, beach litter is one of the most unsightly forms of blight that can ruin a summer day. But now YOU can join Surfrider.org and help California solve this problem by joining the growing list of cities and countries that have chosen to Ban the Bag. As most of you know I am big backer of the NRDC and their movement in the environmental arena. They’ve just come out with a new video featuring renowned environmental activist and celebrated actor Edward James Olmos explaining what makes people “locos” when it comes to energy and the environment. It’s clever and is just another reminder to get involved in making a greener happier planet. Click HERE to see the video and to learn how to make your home state a greener place too!
There has been a lot of focus on the oceans these last few months with the oil spill in the Gulf and a lot of debate around off shore drilling and drilling in general. In the wake of this, the Surfrider Foundation whose continued dedicated to the protection of our oceans has helped to raise awareness about oceanic environmental issues, held a global Hands Across the Sand event this past Saturday. Hands Across the Sand, sent a simple message “NO to Offshore Oil Drilling, YES to Clean Energy”. So if you missed the event click here to see what you missed and what you can do to protect our oceans, let’s all chip in and do our part for a cleaner more sustainable future! Enjoy the waves and happy Summer to all of you!
I have wanted a dog for a really long time but things just never seemed right but the time has come and Chris and I have found our perfect sweetheart of dog! We definitely have some training to do, she nabbed a crow out of the air on our first day to the dog park but I’m studying The Dog Whisperer and learning how to be the Alpha dog! I’ll keep you posted on our adventures in dog training and on the joys of dog living!
Let’s help Obama out as he continues to help create a sustainable future. The NRDC has been instrumental in creating a greener US for all of us to enjoy, so let’s cheer Obama on and encourage him to take the lead on ensuring that comprehensive climate and clean energy legislation is passed into law this year. Click HERE to support the legislation and get some friends to do the same so we can enjoy all a cleaner, greener world, with lots of fresh powder too!

Happy Earth Day everyone! I Hope everyone is doing something to celebrate our Earth today and/or this weekend. I know there are a lot of opportunities to volunteer around your community to pick up trash and plant trees, so do some research and get involved! My family and I are planning to volunteer this Saturday for San Diego’s Creek to Bay Cleanup Day; check it out: http://creektobay.org
I’ve also gotten inspired to research home energy efficiency and renewable energy improvements. Check out this site for tons of amazing ideas from home energy assessments to ways to use solar energy in your home and more: http://www.energysavers.gov/
Finally, if you can’t dedicate time to volunteer this Earth Day (or even if you can), then definitely check out this video called “The Cycle of Insanity: The Real Story of Water” to learn the truth behind our water cycle but solutions to fix it! http://www.surfridersd.org/
With Earth Day and the fact that everyday is earth day, I joined with over 40 groups from across the clean energy movement — community groups, environmentalists, veterans, youth, people of faith, conservationists, and more — to declare my energy independence and call on the U.S. Senate to put our nation on a path towards a clean energy economy.
Will you join me?
